after the tattoo appointment

Leave the bandage on for 2-4 hours.

When you remove the bandage, thoroughly wash the tattoo with antibacterial soap.

Use your fingertips to wash the tattoo, cleaning off all of the leftover vaseline, plasma, and excess ink. Let fully air dry.

After the tattoo is dry, apply ointment. Use VERY light amounts. If the tattoo appears to be shiny or glistening, there is too much ointment. Applying very small amounts of ointment every few hours will help your tattoo heal while still allowing your skin to breathe.

Overmoisturizing can make the area break out, heal slowly or improperly, and potentially cause allergic reaction.

healing your new tattoo

Wash your new tattoo with antibacterial soap 2-4 times a day.

After the tattoo is fully dry, apply ointment.

After about 3-5 days, the tattoo will start to peel like a sunburn. This is normal.  The peeling skin will be the same color as the tattoo, which is also normal.

At this point, discontinue the use of ointment and start using a plain, unscented lotion. Use this to keep the tattoo moisturized until it has fully healed, but remember not to use too much at a time.

Do not soak the tattoo in the bath, ocean, pool or any fluids whatsoever for two weeks. Showering will not harm the tattoo.  During the healing process, wash the tattoo last when showering to ensure there is no residue from other hair/body products on the tattoo.

Be sure to keep the tattoo out of the sun while it is healing.

once your tattoo has healed up

If the tattoo is going to be exposed to the sun after it is healed, always apply sunscreen to keep your tattoo looking new.

If you experience a difficult heal that leads to ink loss, feel free to send us pictures of the areas with loss once the tattoo is 4 weeks old (tattoos can look funky throughout the healing stages) and we can schedule a touch up for you.
